On the night of April 17, devastating flooding swept through Janesville, causing extensive damage across the city and significantly impacting Washington Elementary School. YWCA Rock County’s Before and After School childcare program, located in the lower level of the school, suffered irreparable damage. More than four feet of water filled the space, destroying all equipment, supplies, toys, and learning materials.
This program is more than a
classroom, it is a safe, reliable place where children learn, connect, and are
cared for outside of the school day. For many families, it is essential to
maintaining stability and the ability to work.
We anticipate needing more than $10,000 to replace basic equipment and supplies
required to reopen a safe, licensed childcare environment and the expense of
full day childcare at no additional cost while the school remains closed. As
the school district determines where students will finish the school year, we
also anticipate the need to contract additional transportation.
We are working with the school district and families to navigate next steps, and remain committed to ensuring children continue to have a safe, supportive place to have fun and learn.
As a supporter of YWCA Rock County, I am reaching out to ask you to consider making a gift to support our efforts. Your generosity will directly help us restore this vital program and continue serving families when they need us most.
If you are open to a conversation, I would welcome the opportunity to connect and share more about the impact and how your support can make a difference right now.
Thank you for your continued commitment to our mission and to the children and families we serve.
