16th Annual Walk a Mile in Her Shoes

Join us on Thursday, September 29th at 5:30pm at the Pontiac Convention Center in Janesville.

This unique walk invites participants to walk a mile in women’s shoes to raise awareness and funds for domestic violence victims. The money raised benefits the domestic violence programs at the YWCA.

This event is the largest fundraiser of the year for the YWCA Rock County and this year our goal is to raise $38,000 to support two of our five programs;
 Alternatives to Violence is a 33-bed shelter that offers a safe place for women in crisis. Women and their children receive basic necessities, food, clothing, and personal space to begin to heal. Women also receive case management, legal advocacy, peer support, safety training and more.
 Transitions for Women & Economic Empowerment Program focuses on the long-term needs of women escaping violence. The 11-unit apartment building is home to women and children and is designed to help women learn self-sufficiency and independence through on-site case management and children’s programming.

In 1993, I was hired by the YWCA as the Medical Outreach Coordinator for the Alternatives to Domestic Violence Program. Over the next 5 years, I held several positions, including Legal Advocate and Community Relations Coordinator. While working for the YWCA, I developed a life long passion to advocate and serve victims of violence. Today I am a medical social worker for Mercyhealth South Family Medicine Residency Program and an Ambassador for Walk a Mile in Her Shoes. In this 2022 event, I will walk with fellow physicians, nurses, health care partners and their families to bring awareness of domestic violence in our community. Please help me to continue to offering survivors hope, safety, and support by referring those in need to the YWCA's all-encompassing programs. Just a small donation will go a long way to helping me meet my goal for YWCA Rock County.
